Fast Film Reviews

Bonnie and Clyde

Classic film encourages audience to root for the bad guys. Morally questionable drama plays fast and loose with historical fact, but is endlessly entertaining.

Penelope

Quirky, reverse “Beauty and the Beast” comedy is well filmed with fantastic production values. Talented cast deserves better story that slowly progresses to its inevitable conclusion.

Cry Baby

Weird comedy musical from director John Waters has some lively bits, but misses the mark overall.

Stay

Ponderous film is somewhat challenging to watch, but its provocative plot twists will compel you to find out what happens next.

The Mist

Average B-movie horror film from a Stephen King novella complete with religious fanatics, stupid behavior, and the standard “twist” ending.

Definitely, Maybe

Father recounts past romantic flings and sees if daughter can guess which one is her mother, prompting her to ask “what’s a threesome?” at one point. The nearly 2 hour movie isn’t particularly exciting, but given it’s being told to his 10 year old daughter, it gives the movie a creepy feel.

Superhero Movie

If Marion Ross with a flatulence problem sounds hilarious to you, by all means check this out. All others should steer clear of this tired collection of pop culture references disguised as a movie.

Hancock

Starts off rather well, but a dramatic twist ultimately drives the movie into bathos.

Persepolis

Dark, stylized, hypnotic cartoon recounts a young girl’s coming of age at the time of the Iranian revolution and beyond. Depressing film’s main character is difficult to like despite her tough life.
