Decent historical crime drama about John Dillinger and the efforts of J. Edgar Hoover’s developing FBI to stop him. Classy production design beautifully recreating the 1930s is undermined by a less than compelling plot. It ultimately builds to an interesting climax, but most the action before that is rather spiritless. Unquestionably an improvement over Michael Mann’s last film Miami Vice. Also of note is actress Marion Cotillard as Dillinger’s girlfriend Billie Frechette.
