Fast Five

The gang is back as they join forces to unite against a ruthless Brazilian drug lord who wants them dead. Action thriller is not about street racing this time around, but about stealing $100 million. Heist movie is sort of an Oceans 11, with more muscle and less acumen. There is unquestionably a great deal of satisfaction for the series’ fan as past characters are reunited from the various other films, to assemble the definitive team in this installment. Vin Diesel returns as Dom Toretto. Always ready with the insightful comment or spiritual statement, he possesses this uncanny ability for always having the perfect plan. He’s like a big muscular Buddha. We’ve also got elite DSS agent Luke Hobbs, played by The Rock, who’s out to arrest them and bring them into custody. His character is so physically massive and pumped up on testosterone, he barely seems human. Everything about Fast Five is bigger (the explosions, the fistfights, the people) but not necessarily better. It’s definitely the least intelligent of all the sequels. When two cars pull a huge police vault filled with money through the streets of Rio, you realize the laws of physics have no place in this universe. Neither does subtlety or wit. But it’s safe to say, if you liked the others, you’ll probably like this entry too.

Works better once the whole team is introduced; I was not impressed till that point – around the 40 minute mark? Guesstimation…

  3. If you just enjoy this for what it is, it’s a fun fun fun pic. Scenery was very good. I liked it.

Had to go to work that day and needed to leave so didn’t stay through the credits – did the next (?!?) installment look “fun”?
