2014 has been another great year for film. This was my second year as a member of the Online Film Critics Society. The OFCS is the largest, most respected organization for movie critics whose work appears primarily on the Internet. I adore this group. Looking over the nominees, I must say I am quite pleased with what movies were recognized. I can’t say many of the winners were my first choice, but at least I enjoyed everything that won.

Hahah! I love how ‘What We Do In the Shadows’ fits into the “non-competitive” category. From what I’ve seen (trailers mostly) that thing looks absolutely hysterical, and a top contender for Best Comedy of the year. I guess that’s simply not a category here.
This is a great collection of films here, and it’s really, really great to see Mr. Glazer’s fine production receiving recognition on several fronts. I seriously think that Under the Skin has a good shot of remaining in my top 3 movie experiences of the year. Can’t stop thinking about it.
I also really am curious about the Roger Ebert docu. Sad that I haven’t seen it yet.
It’s nice to see Under the Skin hasn’t been forgotten. I loved it immediately. I still think about it so it will easily make my Top 10. Just not sure where exactly.
P.S. How did you miss Life Itself?
Really bummed that it never showed up here. And then I never really pursued ways of finding it lol.

Amazing –
Birdman takes down two of the four top acting awards: Michael Keaton & Edward Norton, and is nominated for Best Cinermatography.
But the film is shut out off Best Picture and Best Direction. I mean not even getting a nomination.
Lego makes the Top Ten films,? And not Birdman?

I’m in full agreement. It’s perplexing that Birdman doesn’t even score a nom in Picture or Directing but yet wins 3 awards (also Best Editing)
I’m also surprised at the extremely strong showing of Mommy, Canada’s entry for Best Foreign Language Film at this year’s Oscars. The French film got 4 nominations, including Best Picture. It gets a U.S. release next year so looking forward to that.
Interesting list of winners and very similar to those making awards waves everywhere. Really excited to hear more good things about Two Days, One Night. I can’t tell you how excited I am to see that film.
I have a lot of catching up to do regarding foreign films this year. Two Days, One Night is out next week!
Boyhood shoulda won “best pic”. Good choices otherwise.
I liked Boyhood more too. I’m shocked Birdman didn’t even make the cut.
A nice diverse collection of films honored by your group. I still need to catch Grand Budapest, but I’m not generally a fan of Wes Anderson, so I’m not betting a great change of heart about him. Still, I’ll never stop hoping he’ll hook me in with another film that I’ll enjoy like Rushmore or Royal Tenenbaums. For the films I did see, I’m pretty happy with the group’s wins and nominations. Nice to see Michael Keaton and Edward Norton get love for Birdman. I love reading other critic’s Top 10 lists. I haven’t seen The One I Love or Cold in July so now I have 2 more movies to add to my queue. So thanks!
In reality, I am not happy with the nominees or winners. Eddie Redmayne isn’t included in the best actor nominees and Edward Norton won it instead of the tantalizing performance of JK Simmons.
Every film critics group has their own set of nominees and winners. As a reflection of the OFCS, I think they did a good job at honoring the year.
